Italy wins the team competition at Challenge Bernadotte

Congratulations to the Italian team with Enrico Garozzo, Alfredo Rota, Paolo Pizzo and Matthew Trager.

World cup competition for national teams at Challenge Bernadotte in Stockholm ended on Sunday afternoon. Italy beat Poland in a very dramatic final which had to be decided in sudden death. Poland stayed on top for a long while, despite having to substitute one fencer due to injury. After 7 of the 9 matches, Poland was in the lead  33-30. Enters Paolo Pizzo, a highly accomplished and intensive fencer who evens the score to 39-39. After the 9th and final match, the score was still tied; 41-41. In overtime Alfredo Rota made the final touch and wins the competition for Italy.

Snatch or Clean and Jerk

Friday, July 31, 2009

In Olympic-style weightlifting participants attempt a maximum weight single lift of a barbell loaded with weight plates. There are competition in two lifts: the clean and jerk and the snatch.

Vasili Alexeyev of the USSR in 1975. He snatched 190 kg and did 256 in Clean and Jerk.

Competitors compete in one of eight (seven for women) divisions determined by their body mass. These classes are: men’s: 56 kg (123 lb), 62 kg (137 lb), 69 kg (152 lb), 77 kg (170 lb), 85 kg (187 lb), 94 kg (207 lb), 105 kg (231 lb), and over 105 kg; and women’s: 48 kg (106 lb), 53 kg (117 lb), 58 kg (128 lb), 63 kg (139 lb), 69 kg (152 lb), 75 kg (165 lb), and over 75 kg.[1] In each weight division, competitors compete in both the snatch and clean and jerk, and prizes are usually given for the heaviest weights lifted in the snatch, clean and jerk, and the two combined.

World record in Double Trudgen?

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

In the outdoor Swedish Championship in Swimming we have seen amazingly fast front crawl. Crawl is the fastest swimming style, right? How about Trudgen? It is similar to the front crawl, except that it is swum with a scissor kick. And how about Trudgen crawl? Again,  similar to the trudgen, but with the use of a flutter kick between the scissor kicks. And why isn’t double trudgen twice as fast? Is there a Swedish record in Double trudge? A lot of questions, few answers.

Boxing terminology: Jab

Saturday, March 28, 2009

A quick, straight punch thrown with the lead hand from the guard position. The jab is accompanied by a small, clockwise rotation of the torso and hips, while the fist rotates 90 degrees, becoming horizontal upon impact. As the punch reaches full extension, the lead shoulder can be brought up to guard the chin. The rear hand remains next to the face to guard the jaw. After making contact with the target, the lead hand is retracted quickly to resume a guard position in front of the face. The jab is recognised as the most important punch in a boxer’s arsenal because it provides a fair amount of its own cover and it leaves the least amount of space for a counter punch from the opponent. It has the longest reach of any punch and does not require commitment or large weight transfers. Due to its relatively weak power, the jab is often used as a tool to gauge distances, probe an opponent’s defenses, harass an opponent, and set up heavier, more powerful punches. A half-step may be added, moving the entire body into the punch, for additional power. Some notable boxers who have been able to develop relative power in their jabs and use it to punish or ‘wear down’ their opponents to some effect include Larry Holmes and Wladimir Klitschko. Quarter finals in Floorball: AIK 5-6 RIG

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

On Sunday February 1, Qrodo live-casted a very exciting junior quarter final floorball game from Råsta Park. The home team AIK took the lead and it looked like an easy win. The visiting team RIG Umeå was not at all on their toes and looked uncomfortable. But it soon became a most dramatic and shifting game. AIK was leading 5-3 when 3 minutes remained. The game shifted and Umeå started hitting their shots. 6-5 in one minute and 30 second.

The game was characterized by a two good defences and a creative offense. Most people, like me, had AIK as the winner AIK, first time i the quarter finals, but the team has been a very predictable winning machine this year. Good luck in the semi-finals RIG.

Many great players in both teams, we like to highlight the AIK goaltender Jocke Hellman (****) responsible for many great saves, creative forward Andreas Nordström (****)  and strong defense man  Adam Ekman (*****).
